Relevant in the composition of cultural fodder, coupled with at the time, I imagine, tightly chaffing sexual metaphors to what existed in the press…. photos, political manifesto and if lucky, marketing genius to highlight what has been and is now being played out in ‘media wars”, in my country and worldwide (see Student protests, and the dance between themselves and the Government & police in Quebec).

On the purely musical plane, this fusion of -a drummer driven savannah Congo beat, pulled back by each break and the piano fuleled bridge, escaped most of what was not a truly world beats culture at the time,

Dub, Reggae and Dance hall beats we take for granted now in part were made more accessible by Ian Dury of course he was no King Sunny Ade, or even authentic in support for world beats all the same..

His assemble, shined by breezing past so much noise from commercial 70’s racketeering of music, divided by race and gender that defined the era.

This little diddly was way ahead of the curve to what imperialist music wizards of the time deemed “progressive fusion…Jazz, maybe certainly not Disco!”.

So under the radar, this classic one hit wonder became a huge selling hit, and I would gander today, that Gilles Peterson would be the only person qualified to anoint the new Phoenix of some smart cookie’s flame  in attempt to repo  a mix tape, genius effort of, a free base, chemistry needed in fact, required to create a similar kinetic.

I have named candidates in mind based on “do good projects” and sheer talent at large !!!
